We walked passed the lake and found what was left
of the Indians Pony. It still had a shoe on one hoof.
We headed on up to Chief Lake and paused just log enough to take a couple of pictures. The was a lot
less snow here this year than last year. We paused for pictures then headed down to Silver Lake. We
started cooking and I worked on fixing my fishing reel. I took a couple of fishing lures, some duct tape, fishing
line and some medical tape and went to work. We ate and continued on. We went clear to Vermillion stopping just
occasionally. The water crossings and water fall were much less than last year. I liked walking in my Keens much better
than those boots. Two Pairs of socks and I was fine. I heard that
you could call using AT&T from the bridge , so I stood in the middle
of the bridge and tried. No luck. I wandered a bit and
tried, still no luck, I tried sending a text, no luck.
Finally Tom and Geoff had found a camping spot up on a ridge. I was up there setting my tent up when I
heard my phone beep. I looked at it and it said message sent. In a minute it beeped again and I got a
message from my wife. It was funny because it didn't work except in this one little place by the corner of my tent. I started to follow the signal back to the direction it was
coming and found a place where it seemed strong enough to make a call. I called and got through but if I moved a foot either way I lost the signal. I stood right next to a
pine tree and almost put my nose on a small branch so I wouldn't move around. We had a good talk, all was fine at home,
and I was missed. Thats a good thing. The only thing wrong with this campsite was the ants and noseeums. We had a
ok day and enjoyed the ants and noseeums the whole time. In
the morning we watered up,packed up and headed out.
